According to Xgamingserver, during the Genshin Impact FES event, miHoYo president Lie Wei expressed that the team was greatly impacted by the negative feedback and accusations of copying they received in the early stages. The criticism was so intense that even fans of Breath of the Wild protested the Genshin Impact showcase, with one attendee going as far as smashing his PS4 in front of the booth.

MiHoYo president Daiwei expressed his emotions and thoughts about Genshin Impact during the Genshin Impact FES 2023 event in Shanghai.
