Since the initial announcement of the game, trailers for Mortal Kombat 1 have been consistently released online. During the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom, NetherRealm Studios presented exciting new footage on stage. This footage showcased two additional playable fighters and two special guest fighters.

In the latest trailer, the setting was in the dangerous Outworld, ruled by Empress Sindel. The trailer also revealed two new characters that players can control in the game–General Shao, a revised version of Shao Kahn, and Sindel herself. Additionally, two more fighters from previous Mortal Kombat games were confirmed: Motaro, who was a boss in Mortal Kombat 3, and Shujinko, the protagonist of Mortal Kombat Deception.

Taking place in the New Era timeline, Mortal Kombat 1 tells the story of Liu Kang, the Fire God, as he gathers a new team of champions to safeguard the realms against emerging threats. This alternate reality has brought significant changes to the traditional Mortal Kombat storyline, allowing previously villainous characters to take the spotlight. Geras has resurfaced as the guardian of the Hourglass, which controls reality and time. Reptile is no longer a mindless servant of higher beings, and Raiden now serves as Earthrealm's champion under Liu Kang's command, a complete departure from the previous Mortal Kombat lore.

In the latest installment of Mortal Kombat, certain elements have remained unchanged, such as Mileena's excessive number of teeth. Fans can still anticipate the ultra-violent gameplay and creative fatalities that have become synonymous with Mortal Kombat 1. Have you ever pondered the destructive power of a black hole on a ninja? This game will provide a grisly demonstration to answer that very question.

The highly anticipated game, Mortal Kombat 1, is set to be released on September 19 for various platforms including PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. Players who pre-order the special editions will have the opportunity to access the game five days earlier, starting from September 14.
