Sulfur is the lifeblood of raiding in Rust \u2014 every explosive traces back to it, and a raid is really a sulfur budget. This guide covers where to farm sulfur, smelting it, crafting gunpowder, and turning gunpowder into the explosives that win raids.<\/p>\n

Farming sulfur<\/h2>\n

Sulfur comes from the bright-yellow sulfur nodes<\/strong>, mined with a pickaxe or jackhammer, and in bulk from a Mining Quarry<\/strong> placed on a sulfur deposit (found by throwing a Survey Charge<\/strong>). Late wipe, a running sulfur quarry is what funds a raid \u2014 solos farm nodes, groups run quarries. Sulfur fields concentrate in the arid and desert parts of the map.<\/p>\n

Smelt ore into sulfur<\/h2>\n

Sulfur ore smelts into refined sulfur<\/strong> in any furnace, exactly like metal. You’ll also need plenty of charcoal<\/strong> \u2014 the by-product of burning wood in your furnaces \u2014 so keep furnaces running to bank charcoal while you smelt.<\/p>\n

Crafting gunpowder<\/h2>\n

Gunpowder is crafted from sulfur + charcoal<\/strong>. It’s the base ingredient for explosives and explosive ammo, and crafting it in bulk is the real bottleneck before any raid. A Mixing Table<\/strong> lets you produce gunpowder (and other mixes) faster and more efficiently than hand-crafting, so it’s a key pre-raid investment. From gunpowder you make Explosives<\/strong>, then C4, rockets, satchel charges and explosive ammo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
