Sulfur is the lifeblood of raiding in Rust \u2014 every explosive traces back to it, so a raid is really a sulfur budget. This guide covers where to farm sulfur, smelting it, the gunpowder recipe, and exactly how much sulfur each explosive costs so you farm the right amount and not a barrel more.<\/p>\n\n

Farming sulfur<\/h2>\n

Sulfur comes from the bright-yellow sulfur nodes<\/strong>, mined with a pickaxe or jackhammer, and in bulk from a Mining Quarry<\/strong> placed on a sulfur deposit (found by throwing a Survey Charge<\/strong>). Late wipe, a running sulfur quarry is what funds a raid \u2014 solos farm nodes, groups run quarries. Sulfur fields concentrate in the arid and desert parts of the map.<\/p>\n\n

Smelt ore, then craft gunpowder<\/h2>\n

Sulfur ore smelts into refined sulfur<\/strong> in any furnace, exactly like metal (2.5 seconds per ore). You then combine it with charcoal<\/strong> \u2014 the by-product of burning wood in your furnaces \u2014 to make gunpowder. The standard recipe makes 10 Gun Powder from 30 Charcoal + 20 Sulfur<\/strong> at a workbench, and a Mixing Table<\/strong> produces it faster and more efficiently, which is why a mixing table is a key pre-raid investment. From gunpowder you craft Explosives<\/strong>, then C4, rockets, satchels and explosive ammo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
