Every automatic weapon has a <strong>fixed spray pattern<\/strong>; master it and you win fights you&#8217;d otherwise lose. This guide explains how recoil works, the key weapons, sensitivity setup, and how to practise until your spray is muscle memory.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How recoil works in Rust<\/h2>\n<p>Unlike random-spread shooters, Rust weapons follow a <strong>consistent recoil pattern<\/strong> \u2014 the gun kicks up, then in a repeatable left-right zig-zag, the same sequence every time. To control it you move your mouse the <strong>opposite<\/strong> way to cancel each kick: pull down to counter the climb, and left\/right to counter the sway. Because the pattern is fixed, drilling it turns spraying into something you do without thinking. (Note: recoil scripts\/macros are bannable \u2014 you learn it legitimately.)<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The key weapons<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AK-47 (Assault Rifle)<\/strong> \u2014 the highest skill ceiling and the highest reward. A hard upward-then-zig-zag pattern that takes real practice but dominates once learned.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LR-300<\/strong> \u2014 a tighter, easier pattern than the AK; excellent at mid-range and a great gun to learn control on.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MP5 \/ Thompson \/ Custom SMG<\/strong> \u2014 close-range sprays that are far more forgiving; the best place to start learning recoil.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Semi-Automatic Rifle<\/strong> \u2014 not full-auto, but learning to pace your clicks for follow-up shots matters too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sensitivity &amp; setup<\/h2>\n<p>Most strong sprayers play on a <strong>low-to-mid sensitivity<\/strong> (commonly around 400&nbsp;DPI with a low in-game sensitivity) so small, precise mouse movements can pull the pattern down accurately. There&#8217;s no single &#8220;correct&#8221; number \u2014 consistency matters far more than the exact value. Pick a sensitivity, lock it in, and don&#8217;t keep changing it, so the pattern becomes muscle memory.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attachments help<\/h2>\n<p>A <strong>muzzle brake<\/strong> reduces recoil (at the cost of more visible muzzle flash), and a <strong>handmade sight or holo<\/strong> cleans up your sight picture for tracking. Attachments don&#8217;t replace skill, but they make the pattern easier to control while you learn.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practise the patterns<\/h2>\n<p>The fastest way to improve is to drill the patterns directly rather than learning them in real fights.
