Breeding produces the strongest creatures in ARK: Survival Ascended \u2014 stat-stacked, mutated and imprinted dinos that outclass anything you can tame from the wild. It’s also the deepest system in the game. This guide walks the full chain: mating, eggs and incubation, raising babies, imprinting for huge bonuses, and stacking mutations to build a perfect line.<\/p>\n

Why breed instead of tame?<\/h2>\n

A bred baby inherits the higher of each parent’s stats<\/strong>, so by pairing a high-health parent with a high-melee parent you can combine both into one offspring. Stack that over generations and add imprinting<\/strong> and mutations<\/strong>, and you end up with creatures far beyond wild tames \u2014 essential for bosses and PvP.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Mating<\/h2>\n

Place a compatible male and female of the same species<\/strong> close together and enable mating (set them to wander, or use the mating option while they’re stationary). After a mating timer, mammals<\/strong> give live birth, while egg-layers<\/strong> drop a fertilized egg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Incubating the egg<\/h2>\n

A fertilized egg must be held at the right temperature<\/strong> or it loses health and dies. Use air conditioners<\/strong> (the cleanest method), standing torches\/campfires<\/strong> for heat, or an incubator<\/strong> for precise control. The egg shows whether it’s too hot or too cold. Step 3: Raising the baby<\/h2>\n

This is the demanding part. A newborn has a tiny inventory and must be hand-fed<\/strong> constantly through the baby stage<\/strong> \u2014 keep food in its inventory and don’t let it starve. Once it reaches the juvenile<\/strong> stage it can eat from a feeding trough<\/strong>, easing the workload. Plan to be available during the baby phase, or raise on a server with boosted maturation rates so it passes quickly.<\/p>\n

Step 4: Imprinting<\/h2>\n
