This guide explains what each workbench tier costs, the difference between the research table and the tech tree, and the smartest order to unlock the gear that wins wipes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workbench tiers<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Workbench Level 1<\/strong> \u2014 50 scrap; unlocks Tier 1 crafting and its tech tree.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Workbench Level 2<\/strong> \u2014 500 scrap (and requires a WB1); unlocks Tier 2 gear like the Custom SMG and many components.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Workbench Level 3<\/strong> \u2014 1,250 scrap (and requires a WB2); unlocks top-tier gear including the AK and explosives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s roughly <strong>1,800 scrap<\/strong> just for the three benches \u2014 so farming scrap early (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/xgamingserver.com\/blog\/rust-scrap-farming-guide\">scrap guide<\/a>) is a top priority, and a higher-tier workbench is also a prime raid target on other players.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research table vs tech tree<\/h2>\n<p>There are two ways to unlock blueprints:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Research Table<\/strong> \u2014 place an item you&#8217;ve <em>found<\/em> plus scrap to learn its blueprint directly. Perfect when you loot a specific gun or tool you want to craft more of.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tech Tree<\/strong> \u2014 built into each workbench; spend scrap to unlock items along a path <em>without needing the item<\/em>. Usually the most scrap-efficient way to unlock a planned loadout from scratch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most players use both: tech-tree the path to their target gun, and research lucky loot drops they want to mass-craft.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Smart unlock order<\/h2>\n<p>Prioritise <strong>tools and a primary weapon<\/strong>, then the <strong>explosive path<\/strong> (satchels\/rockets\/C4) for raiding, before luxury items. On a tribe, <strong>split tech-tree branches<\/strong> between members so you collectively unlock far more for the same total scrap.
