This guide covers the building tiers, how foundations and snapping work, defending against wild creatures and raiders, and where to build for safety and resources.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building tiers<\/h2>\n<p>Structures upgrade through five tiers, each tougher than the last:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Thatch<\/strong> \u2014 your first-night shelter; weak and flammable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wood<\/strong> \u2014 a step up, but still vulnerable to bigger creatures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stone<\/strong> \u2014 the early safe standard; <strong>immune to most wild creatures<\/strong>, so this is your real first base.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Metal<\/strong> \u2014 raid-resistant; the PvP standard for protecting loot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tek<\/strong> \u2014 the endgame tier with the strongest structures and tech features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Foundations, snapping &amp; stability<\/h2>\n<p>Start with level <strong>foundations<\/strong> on flat ground, then snap walls, ceilings and pillars to them. Use <strong>pillars and ceilings<\/strong> to extend over uneven terrain and water. ARK also enforces <strong>structural stability<\/strong> \u2014 pieces too far from support will collapse, so support large overhangs with pillars.
