Blips are the icons on the map and minimap that guide players to shops, jobs, garages and points of interest. Adding them is a small but essential part of building a FiveM server. This guide covers how to add blips in FiveM.<\/p>\n\n

The basic blip<\/h2>\n

A static map blip is created by chaining a few natives:<\/p>\n

AddBlipForCoord<\/code> places it, SetBlipSprite<\/code> chooses the icon, SetBlipColour<\/code> sets the colour, and the text-command trio gives it a name.<\/p>\n\n
Sprites and colours<\/h2>\n
The sprite<\/strong> is the icon (there are nearly a thousand), and the colour<\/strong> is one of ~86 palette IDs. Short-range vs always-visible<\/h2>\n
SetBlipAsShortRange(blip, true)<\/code> makes a blip only appear on the minimap when the player is near it \u2014 perfect for minor points so the map stays clean. Leave it off for main locations that should always show.<\/p>\n\n
Blips for entities and players<\/h2>\n
You can also attach blips to entities: AddBlipForEntity(entity)<\/code> follows a vehicle or ped, useful for player blips, job vehicles or mission targets. The same sprite\/colour\/name natives apply.<\/p>\n\n
