Running your own DayZ server means your own rules \u2014 your loot, your mods, your community, no random KOS bandits. This guide covers how to make a DayZ (PC) server.<\/p>\n

PC only \u2014 a quick note<\/h2>\n

Custom DayZ servers exist on the PC (Steam) version<\/strong>, where the full modding and community-server ecosystem lives. Console (Xbox\/PlayStation) private servers are handled separately through Bohemia’s official console partner and can’t be modded the same way \u2014 so this guide is for PC.<\/p>\n

The two ways to host<\/h2>\n

1. Managed hosting (the easy way)<\/h3>\n

  2. Configure serverDZ.cfg<\/strong> \u2014 name, password, player count, and gameplay settings (see our serverDZ.cfg guide<\/a>) or our config generator<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  3. Pick a map<\/strong> \u2014 Chernarus or Livonia ship with the server; custom maps come via mods.<\/li>\n
  4. Add mods<\/strong> (optional) from the Steam Workshop and their keys (see our mods guide<\/a>).<\/li>\n
  5. Open the ports<\/strong> and launch the server.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    After it’s running<\/h2>\n

    Tune your loot economy in types.xml<\/code> (see our Central Loot Economy guide<\/a>), set admins (e.g. with VPPAdminTools), and share the server with your group. From here you can build a whole community \u2014 vanilla survival or heavily modded.<\/p>\n
