DayZ has one of the most detailed medical systems in survival gaming \u2014 and not knowing it will get you killed by something as simple as a cut or a cold. This guide covers the DayZ medical system and how to heal.<\/p>\n

Bleeding \u2014 the immediate killer<\/h2>\n

Cuts, gunshots and zombie hits cause bleeding<\/strong>, shown by a blood-drop icon. Bleeding drains your blood fast and will kill you. Apply rags or bandages immediately<\/strong> to stop it. Always carry rags (tear them from clothing) \u2014 this is the single most important medical habit in DayZ.<\/p>\n

Blood and health<\/h2>\n

Your character has both blood<\/strong> and health<\/strong>. Lose too much blood and you go unconscious; lose health and you die. You regenerate blood and health naturally by staying well-fed, hydrated and not sick<\/strong> \u2014 eating and drinking to “energized” and “hydrated” status is what heals you over time. For severe blood loss, a blood transfusion or saline<\/strong> restores blood fast (transfusions need matching blood types).<\/p>\n

Broken bones<\/h2>\n

Falls and heavy hits can break your legs<\/strong>, leaving you crawling. Craft and apply a splint<\/strong> (rags + sticks) to fix it, or use morphine for an instant fix.<\/p>\n
