Once you’ve survived the coast, hunting becomes the most reliable food source in DayZ \u2014 better and safer than scavenging cans. This guide covers hunting and cooking in DayZ.<\/p>\n

What you can hunt<\/h2>\n

DayZ’s forests and fields are full of wildlife \u2014 deer, boar, cows, goats, chickens, rabbits<\/strong> and more. Larger animals give a lot of meat and fat; small game is quick but feeds you less.<\/p>\n

How to hunt<\/h2>\n

  1. Find an animal<\/strong> \u2014 forests, fields and farms. Move quietly; they spook and run.<\/li>\n
  2. Kill it<\/strong> \u2014 any weapon works, but a suppressed gun or a bow keeps you quiet (gunshots attract players).<\/li>\n
  3. Skin and quarter it<\/strong> \u2014 look at the carcass with a knife or sharp tool equipped and use the action to harvest meat, fat (lard) and a pelt\/guts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
