It works upright, on its side, or upside-down. That’s 36 iron ingots per golem, so most players farm them rather than build them.<\/p>\nNatural spawning in villages<\/h2>\nVillages spawn golems automatically to defend villagers:<\/p>\n \n- Java:<\/strong> summoned when villagers gossip or panic \u2014 you need enough villagers (5 gossiping or 3 panicking) who have slept in the last 20 minutes<\/strong>, and no existing golem within 16 blocks.<\/li>\n
- Bedrock:<\/strong> requires a village of at least 20 beds and 10 villagers<\/strong>, with one extra golem per 10 additional villagers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
They also appear caged at pillager outposts<\/strong> \u2014 free them for the iron.<\/p>\nBehavior and combat<\/h2>\nIron Golems automatically attack hostile mobs<\/strong> \u2014 zombies, skeletons, spiders, pillagers, ravagers and more \u2014 flinging them into the air with a devastating uppercut. Key rules:<\/p>\n\n- Player-built golems never attack you<\/strong>, even if you hit them.<\/li>\n
- Naturally-spawned village golems will<\/em> turn on a player with very low village reputation (Java), and retaliate if attacked.<\/li>\n
- They never wander off from their village, and never attack each other.<\/li>\n
- They can’t hit targets about 2.75+ blocks above them \u2014 the basis of safe iron-farm designs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The iron farm angle<\/h2>\nBecause each golem drops a guaranteed 3\u20135 iron ingots<\/strong>, a village-based iron farm<\/strong> \u2014 where golems spawn to defend “scared” villagers, then fall into a killing chamber \u2014 produces effectively unlimited iron. It’s one of the most valuable early-to-mid game farms you can build, powering everything from rails to hoppers to iron gear.<\/p>\nHealing an Iron Golem<\/h2>\nGolems visibly crack as they take damage<\/strong> (light cracks below 75% health, heavy below 25%). Use an iron ingot on a golem<\/strong> to heal it 25 HP and remove a crack level \u2014 handy for keeping a village defender alive through a raid.<\/p>\n |
