It changes how firefights play out: plates can now save your life, but only where they cover, and getting hit throws off your aim. Here&#8217;s how hard armor, soft armor and the Armor HUD work, so you can build a loadout that actually survives contact.<\/p>\n<h2>Hard armor (plates)<\/h2>\n<p>Hard armor means <strong>ballistic ceramic inserts<\/strong> \u2014 the &#8220;plates&#8221; you carry in a plate carrier. They can stop up to a few full-sized caliber rounds, such as <strong>7.62 NATO<\/strong> (fired by many of the battle and precision rifles in the game), before being depleted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plates are carried in plate-carrier-type platforms. The two in V1.0 are the <strong>Plate Carrier (JPC)<\/strong> and <strong>Plate Carrier (MPC)<\/strong>, both fitted with plates by default. (Note: an old saved loadout for these items won&#8217;t have plates \u2014 re-add them.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plate Carrier (MPC): 4 plates<\/strong> \u2014 front, back, and one on each side.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plate Carrier (JPC): 2 plates<\/strong> \u2014 front and back only.<\/li>\n<li>To add or remove individual plates, click the gear icon (\u2699\ufe0f) on the item and use the <strong>Armor Inserts<\/strong> section on the left of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Coverage is the catch:<\/strong> hard armor only protects the exact area equivalent to the plates. Every other part of your upper body stays fully vulnerable \u2014 a round to an unplated side or shoulder does full damage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weight trade-off:<\/strong> each front\/chest or back plate adds <strong>2.85 kg<\/strong> to your loadout; each side plate adds <strong>1 kg<\/strong>. A fully-plated MPC is real weight, so balance protection against mobility and stamina.<\/p>\n<h2>Soft armor<\/h2>\n<p>Soft armor refers to <strong>Kevlar-like materials<\/strong> used in bulletproof vests and helmets. It&#8217;s mostly effective against <strong>pistol rounds<\/strong> (from handguns or SMGs), but unlike hard armor it protects <strong>almost the entire area of the item<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All helmets<\/strong> now offer limited protection against pistol rounds. Protection scales with coverage \u2014 a fuller helmet like the <strong>MICH<\/strong> protects a greater area than a high-cut helmet.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Body Armor<\/strong> platform (renamed from &#8220;Bulletproof Vest&#8221;) absorbs a limited number of pistol impacts across most of the torso. It can also be worn <strong>under either plate carrier<\/strong> for layered protection.<\/li>\n<li>Soft armor is <strong>active automatically<\/strong> once equipped \u2014 nothing to toggle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Armor HUD<\/h2>\n<p>The Armor HUD sits next to the Stance Indicator (bottom-right by default). Hard armor shows the status of each individual plate; soft armor shows a single icon for helmet and\/or vest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>White<\/strong> \u2014 the armor is intact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yellow + crack<\/strong> \u2014 damaged but still functional.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Red + diagonal line<\/strong> \u2014 depleted (no longer protecting).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For hard armor, each icon carries a letter for the plate position: <strong>F<\/strong> (front\/chest), <strong>B<\/strong> (back), <strong>L<\/strong> (left side) and <strong>R<\/strong> (right side). You can hide the HUD in <em>Settings \u203a HUD \u203a Character Status \u203a Show Armor<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>Hit reactions<\/h2>\n<p>Tied to the armor update is a new <strong>hit reaction<\/strong> system: being shot now makes your character <strong>flinch<\/strong>, which can throw off your aim.
