# Quick Race (/docs/assetto-corsa/quick-race)

import { Callout } from "fumadocs-ui/components/callout";

**Quick Race** is the fastest way to get cars on track. It strips the event setup down to the essentials — track, cars, and a single session — and fills in everything else with sensible defaults. Use it for casual lobbies, hotlapping, or testing a track and car combo before building a full event.

When to use Quick Race vs Custom Race [#when-to-use-quick-race-vs-custom-race]

| Use Quick Race when…       | Use a [Custom Race](/docs/assetto-corsa/custom-races) when… |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| You want cars on track now | You want practice → qualifying → race |
| One session is enough | You want specific weather and time of day |
| Defaults are fine | You want a hand-built entry list or pit assignments |
| Casual / open lobby | League or structured event |

Choosing cars — the car picker [#choosing-cars--the-car-picker]

The car picker is a visual grid of every car installed on your server. Click a car to add it to the race; click again to remove it. The selected count is shown so you always know how big your grid is.

* **Search** — type part of a car or brand name to filter the grid.
* **Select All / Clear** — add or remove every visible car at once.
* **One-make vs multi-class** — add a single car for a spec series, or several for a mixed grid.

Not sure which car to run? Browse specs and compare them first in the [Car Database](https://xgamingserver.com/tools/assetto-corsa/cars) and [Car Comparison](https://xgamingserver.com/tools/assetto-corsa/car-comparison) tools, then pick here.

Session type [#session-type]

Quick Race runs a single session. Choose the type that fits:

* **Practice** — open running, drivers join and leave freely. Good for warm-up and an open hotlap lobby.
* **Qualifying** — timed session that sets the grid order.
* **Race** — a set number of laps or a time limit, with a starting grid.

For a full practice → qualifying → race weekend, use a [Custom Race](/docs/assetto-corsa/custom-races) instead.

Grid size and AI [#grid-size-and-ai]

Set how many cars are on the grid. Two rules:

* Keep the total at or below the track's **pit box** count — that's the maximum entrants the track supports.
* If you allow AI, the manager fills empty slots with computer drivers so the grid looks full even on a quiet server.

  Pit-box counts vary by track and layout. You can see the limit for any circuit in the [Track Database](https://xgamingserver.com/tools/assetto-corsa/tracks).

Starting and watching [#starting-and-watching]

Click **Start Event**. The manager generates the config, launches the server, and registers it with the lobby. Open [Live Timing](/docs/assetto-corsa/live-timing) to watch the session, and use the admin panel there to message or kick drivers and advance the session.

<Callout type="warn">
  Race starts but the server goes offline? That's a ports/lobby issue, not your race setup — see [Getting Into the Lobby](/docs/assetto-corsa/getting-into-lobby).
