Set AFK Idle Timeout on Your Minecraft Server
How to automatically kick idle players after a set time on your Minecraft Java server.
Setting the Idle Timeout
In server.properties:
player-idle-timeout=30| Value | Effect |
|---|---|
0 | Disabled — players are never kicked for being AFK (default) |
10 | Kick after 10 minutes of inactivity |
30 | Kick after 30 minutes |
60 | Kick after 1 hour |
The timer resets when the player moves, chats, or interacts with anything.
💡 Tip: Set to
30on public servers to free up slots from AFK players. Keep at0for private servers.
