Set AFK Idle Timeout on Your Minecraft Server

How to automatically kick idle players after a set time on your Minecraft Java server.

Setting the Idle Timeout

In server.properties:

player-idle-timeout=30

Value	Effect
`0`	Disabled — players are never kicked for being AFK (default)
`10`	Kick after 10 minutes of inactivity
`30`	Kick after 30 minutes
`60`	Kick after 1 hour

The timer resets when the player moves, chats, or interacts with anything.

💡 Tip: Set to 30 on public servers to free up slots from AFK players. Keep at 0 for private servers.
