Common Issues and Solutions [#common-issues-and-solutions]

Server Not Appearing in Browser [#server-not-appearing-in-browser]

**Cause:** Version mismatch, config error, or server not fully started.

**Fix:**

1. Check the [server logs](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/server-logs) for errors
2. Verify all [mandatory config values](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/configure-your-server) are set (Owner ID, Server Name, Default World Name)
3. Make sure your game client and server are on the same version — [update your server](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/update-server) if needed
4. Restart the server from the [XGamingServer Panel](https://panel.xgamingserver.com)

Server Appears But Won't Connect [#server-appears-but-wont-connect]

**Cause:** Port issue or server still loading.

**Fix:**

1. Wait for the server to fully start (check Console output in the panel)
2. On XGamingServer, ports are configured automatically. If self-hosting, check [port forwarding](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/server-ports)
3. If a [password](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/server-password) is set, make sure you're entering it correctly

Version Mismatch After Update [#version-mismatch-after-update]

**Cause:** Your game client updated but the server is still on the old version.

**Fix:**

1. [Update your server](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/update-server) to the latest version
2. Restart the server
3. Verify versions match by comparing the log file header with your client version (top-left corner)

> 💡 **Tip:** This is likely to happen any time a hotfix or update is released. Always update your server promptly after a game update.

Server Crashes on Startup [#server-crashes-on-startup]

**Cause:** Missing or invalid config values, or corrupted save file.

**Fix:**

1. Check the [server logs](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/server-logs) for the specific error
2. Verify all mandatory config settings are correct
3. If the save file may be corrupted, try [starting with a fresh world](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/reset-server) or restoring a [backup](/docs/runescape-dragonwilds/backup-saves)

Config Changes Not Applying [#config-changes-not-applying]

**Cause:** Editing the config while the server is running.

**Fix:**

> ⚠️ Changing `DedicatedServer.ini` values while the server is running will result in those changes being lost.

Always:

1. **Stop** the server first
2. Make your config changes
3. **Start** the server

Steam Invites Not Working [#steam-invites-not-working]

**Cause:** Known issue — Steam invites to dedicated servers don't work as intended.
