# Cabins & Farmhands (/docs/stardew-valley/cabins)

In Stardew Valley co-op, every farmhand needs a **cabin** on the farm. On a dedicated server JunimoServer manages cabins automatically so you don't have to build them by hand.

How it works [#how-it-works]

* When a **new player** joins, a cabin is created for them automatically.
* **Returning players** spawn back at their existing cabin.
* The server uses a **cabin strategy** to decide where cabins go (for example, stacking them neatly so they don't sprawl across your farm).

Capacity [#capacity]

Stardew Valley supports up to **8 players** (host + 7 farmhands). Your plan's slot count and the `server-settings.json` cabin options determine how many farmhands can join. See [Server Settings](/docs/stardew-valley/server-settings).

> If a new player can't join because there's no room, increase the cabin/farmhand allowance in `server-settings.json` and restart.

Removing a farmhand [#removing-a-farmhand]

Use the in-game multiplayer menu (or a console command) to remove an inactive farmhand and free their cabin. See [Console Commands](/docs/stardew-valley/console-commands).
