How Rust Recycling Actually Works
Every Rust item has a fixed recycle yield — components return ~50% of their craft cost in raw materials. Gears recycle to 60 metal frags + 2 scrap + 3 HQM. Sewing Kits recycle to 40 cloth + 2 rope + 4 scrap. Tech Trash recycles to a flat 5 scrap + 1 HQM (the best scrap-per-slot item in the game).
Add any number of items to the calculator and it totals every output material across all your stacks. Useful for: deciding whether to recycle a weapon or sell it to an NPC, planning a research-bench priority list, or figuring out if a barrel haul is worth a trip back to a recycler.
Safe-zone recyclers (Outpost, Bandit Camp, Fishing Village) are safest but players TP in and steal your items mid-recycle. Monument recyclers (Satellite Dish, Giant Sphere, Airfield, Launch Site) are faster and often camp-free early wipe, but also the most dangerous.
Tip: weapons ALWAYS recycle for more than they sell at NPC vending machines. Never sell a gun to Outpost — always recycle. A recycled Thompson returns 75 metal frags + 1 SMG body + 62 scrap; the NPC only pays 15 scrap flat.

Tech Trash — a full stack of 20 Tech Trash recycles into 100 scrap + 20 HQM. That's 5 scrap per item, the highest scrap-per-slot in the game. Gears are second-best at 2 scrap + components.
Does recycling a weapon give more than selling it?
Yes, always. A Thompson recycles into 75 metal frags + 1 SMG body + 62 scrap (total ~200 scrap value). Outpost pays 15 scrap flat. Recycle every weapon you loot — never sell.
Where are the Rust monument recyclers?
Outpost, Bandit Camp, Fishing Village (all safe zones), plus Airfield, Satellite Dish, Giant Sphere, Launch Site, Harbor 1, Harbor 2, Train Yard, Power Plant, Water Treatment, Oxum's Gas Station, Abandoned Military Base, and Underground Stations.
Can other players steal from a recycler I'm using?
Yes — anyone can open the recycler at any time and empty the output slot. Safe zones protect you from getting killed but not from theft. Split items into multiple recycler slots so one grab doesn't take everything.
