What is a Rust wipe?
In Rust, a wipe is a scheduled server reset. Facepunch operates official servers on a fixed schedule, and the vast majority of community and modded servers follow it closely. There are two types: a map wipe regenerates the world but players keep their learned blueprints, and a blueprint wipe (BP wipe) resets everything learned. The big monthly event is force wipe, a simultaneous map + BP wipe that lands with each month's update patch.
Rust Wipe Types Explained
| Wipe type | What resets | Cadence | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Force wipe | Map + blueprints + everything | 1st Thursday monthly | ~19:00 UTC |
| Map wipe | World + bases (keep BPs) | Weekly on Thursdays | ~19:00 UTC |
| Bi-weekly wipe | Usually map only | Every other Thursday | ~19:00 UTC |
| Custom (community) | Server-operator defined | Daily, 3-day, 2-week, etc. | Varies |
Official Facepunch servers run one of three schedules: Vanilla weekly, Softcore weekly, or Hardcore weekly. All monthly BPs align with force wipe on the first Thursday.
Pre-Wipe Prep Checklist
In the 48-72 hours leading up to force wipe, most clans run through a standard set of tasks. Copy this list if it helps:
- 24-48h out:announce raid priorities to your group. Spend any stockpiled C4/rockets on remaining targets — don't hoard into a wipe where they become worthless.
- 12-24h out:finalise the next-wipe base plan: target location, who's farming what, starter kit loadout.
- 6-12h out: last big loot run. Bases are typically softest now — defenders are checked out.
- 2-6h out: pre-craft starter kits if your server allows pre-wipe bases. Queue up the map seed preview if the server publishes it.
- At wipe: log in early, claim monument spawns, start farming hemp + stone immediately.
- First 4h post-wipe: establish base location + TC priv, build to wood, hit a barrel route for components.
What Happens on Force Wipe Day
Force wipe isn't just a server reset — it's the biggest community event of the month. Typical sequence:
- Week of: Facepunch teases changes on Twitter/X and the weekly dev blog.
- Wipe day morning (EU):staging branch goes live — players on Steam's beta branch can preview the patch early.
- ~19:00 UTC: live servers go offline for the update rollout. Facepunch pushes the patch and restarts in waves over 30-60 minutes.
- Within 2 hours: official servers back online with fresh maps + BPs reset. Community servers follow within hours depending on operator availability.
- Within 24 hours:Facepunch's update video drops on YouTube walking through new content.
Host a Rust Server with Custom Wipes
Don't like the official Thursday schedule? Run your own server with whatever cadence fits your group — daily, 3-day, weekly-skip-BP, monthly-only. Our Rust hosting panel includes:
- • One-click manual wipe (map, BP, or both) from the control panel
- • Scheduled auto-wipes on any cadence you set
- • Seed + map size control per wipe
- • Backups kept before each wipe so you can roll back if something breaks
- • Oxide / uMod plugin support for custom wipe events

Frequently Asked Questions
Wipe times normalised to 19:00 UTC — actual rollouts can range 18:00-21:00 UTC depending on patch size and DST. Check Facepunch's dev blog and @playrust for the exact patch time.
Rust Wipe Schedules Explained
Rust has two wipe types: force wipes (first Thursday of every month, 10am UTC, server-wide, blueprints + map reset) and server wipes (whenever the server admin schedules, map reset only, blueprints persist). Knowing the next force wipe matters because that's when the whole community starts fresh — biggest population, most competitive play, best time to jump in.
Most servers run one of three cycles: weekly (every Thursday, ~7 days), biweekly (every 2 Thursdays, ~14 days), or monthly (force wipe only). Vanilla servers usually do monthly with optional BP wipes. Modded x2/x5/x10 servers usually do weekly to keep the progression cycle tight.
Use the wipe tracker to find the next force wipe date from your current time zone, then filter by server cycle to see which of your favorite servers wipe when. Bookmark servers you want to play and get a clean list of all their upcoming wipes.
If you're hosting your own Rust server with XGamingServer, you can schedule automated wipes (map + player data, or BP wipes) via the admin panel without manually editing files or restarting — and timezone the wipe to your player base's peak hours.
Rust Wipe Schedule Tracker — FAQ
When does Rust force wipe?
First Thursday of every month at ~10am UTC (around 2pm UTC depending on the official rollout). Force wipe resets all blueprints server-wide AND clears the map, on every Facepunch-official server and most community servers.
What's the difference between a force wipe and a BP wipe?
Force wipe = first Thursday of the month, mandatory, resets map + blueprints. BP wipe = server-admin discretion, usually coincides with force wipe but can happen mid-cycle on heavy modded servers. Most vanilla servers only BP-wipe on force-wipe day.
How do I know when my favorite server wipes?
Check the server's BattleMetrics page — the 'Recent wipes' section shows historical wipe frequency. Add the server to your wipe tracker and you'll see its next estimated wipe based on its pattern.
Can I customize wipe schedules on my own server?
Yes — if you host with XGamingServer, the admin panel supports scheduled auto-wipes (full, BP-only, or map-only) at any interval and time zone. No manual file editing needed.
