Valheim Boss Order (1–7)
Bosses must be beaten in order — each drops a Forsaken Power + unlocks the next biome. The recommended progression is Eikthyr → Elder → Bonemass → Moder → Yagluth → Queen → Fader.
Valheim Boss Progression — The Complete 7-Boss Guide
Valheim has 7 main bosses, one per biome, and they must be killed in order — each drops a unique material that gates progression to the next biome. Eikthyr (Meadows, 500 HP) unlocks Antler Pickaxe for Copper. The Elder (Black Forest, 2500 HP) drops the Swamp Key. Bonemass (Swamp, 5000 HP) drops the Wishbone. Moder (Mountain, 3500 HP) unlocks Artisan Table. Yagluth (Plains, 8000 HP) gates Mistlands. The Queen (Mistlands, 18000 HP) drops Sealbreaker for Ashlands. Fader (Ashlands, 25000 HP) unlocks Deep North.
Every boss also grants a Forsaken Power on death — a 5-minute buff with 20-minute cooldown that you can activate at any ancient altar. Eikthyr's power (-60% stamina cost for running/jumping) is useful throughout all of Valheim. Bonemass's power (+50% physical resistance) is mandatory for Mountain and Plains. Moder's power (+50% boat speed) is your go-to for exploration.
Each boss has unique damage resistances and weaknesses you MUST exploit. Bonemass is IMMUNE to pierce/slash but weak to BLUNT — that's why Iron Mace is the universal Bonemass killer. The Elder is a fire magnet — stockpile 50+ fire arrows. Moder resists frost but melts to pierce. Fader resists fire and rewards frost. How do you beat Bonemass in Valheim?
Bonemass is immune to pierce/slash and poison. Use BLUNT damage (Iron Mace is ideal, 80+ per swing) and pre-drink poison resistance mead. Keep moving to avoid his AoE poison cloud — that's what kills most players. Bonemass has 5000 HP so bring 2+ mead stacks and 100+ durability on your weapon.
What's the hardest Valheim boss?
The Queen (Mistlands, 18,000 HP) is generally considered the toughest — she summons adds constantly, hits hard with pierce damage, and the Mistlands terrain blocks line of sight. Fader (Ashlands, 25,000 HP) has more HP but rewards frost damage which most players have ready by Ashlands.
What are Forsaken Powers in Valheim?
Each boss drops a permanent Forsaken Power you activate at ancient altars. Eikthyr: -60% run/jump stamina cost. The Elder: +60% tree chopping. Bonemass: +50% physical resist. Moder: +50% boat speed.
