How To Set Max Players On Your Rust Server

Learn how to change the maximum player count on your Rust dedicated server.

Adjusting the max player count lets you control how many players can be on your Rust server at the same time. A higher player count means more action but also requires more server resources, so choose a value that matches your server plan and play style.

Setting Max Players

Stop Your Server

Log in to the XGamingServer Panel and Stop your Rust server.

Open Startup Settings

In the sidebar, click Startup.

Change the Max Players Value

Find the Max Players field and enter your desired number.

Start Your Server

Click Start to apply the new player limit.

💡 Tip: If you are running a modded server with resource-heavy plugins, consider keeping the player count lower to maintain good performance. You can always increase it later if the server handles the load well.

📝 Note: You can also set server.maxplayers in your server.cfg file or run the command directly in the console, but the value set in Startup will take priority on each server start.
