Two factions (US vs Soviets) fight over control points across Everon or Arland, with supply lines, base-building, vehicle spawns, and ticket-based respawns. It's self-directed — players make decisions, squads form organically, and the battle ebbs and flows without any admin intervention. For a server open to the public, Conflict is the obvious choice: drop-in-drop-out friendly and works with anywhere from 10 to 128 players.
Game Master is different in spirit. One or more admins (or trusted players) take the Zeus-style role of scripting the battle in real time: they spawn AI squads, position vehicles, place objectives, and trigger events on the fly. It shines for milsim units running scripted operations where the "fun" comes from a curated narrative rather than emergent PvP. You need an admin who wants to run the show, but the payoff is far higher immersion and zero grief.
Pick Conflict if you want a self-sustaining public server. Pick Game Master if you run a community or unit with regular operations nights.
Conflict is PvP-first. Even though AI bot squads fill empty seats, the real opponents are the other humans, and the experience assumes at least a dozen players online to feel alive. Deaths cost faction tickets, and losing a vehicle has strategic consequences. It scales up to 128 players on Everon.
Combat Ops is co-op PvE. One to eight friends drop into Arland, Everon, or Kolguyev and complete randomly-generated assault or patrol objectives against AI. There's no PvP, no ticket pressure, and no admin overhead. It's the closest thing Reforger has to a "jump in with friends after work" mode, and it scales down gracefully to solo play.
If you have a consistent group of 4-8 and want relaxed sessions, Combat Ops is the best-kept secret in Reforger. If you want to fill a 40+ slot server with strangers, run Conflict.
Everon is the 51 km² flagship map — dense forests, open fields, hilltop villages, and long-range sightlines that favour combined-arms gameplay. It's the biggest performance hit on server CPUs but delivers the signature Arma experience. Recommended for 40+ player Conflict.
Arland is roughly 10 km² — a tighter island map with faster rotations between objectives and more concentrated firefights. It runs noticeably lighter on hardware and is a better fit for 20-32 player servers or when you want engagements to happen quickly.
Kolguyev (internally "Cain") is a later-added eastern-bloc map with rolling tundra, industrial sites, and a different visual palette. It sits between Everon and Arland in size, and it's the only map currently available for HQ Commander and Game Master variants alongside the others.
Montignac is an urban scenario variant focused on close-quarters combat inside and around the town — tight, punchy, infantry-heavy. Smaller Capture & Hold maps like Briars Coast, Montfort Castle, and Simon's Wood are purpose-built 12-32 player arenas.
Every scenario listed in this picker is official — shipped with the base game or its expansions, so any player can join your server without downloading anything extra (beyond the game itself). Official scenarios also have the strongest crossplay guarantees between PC and Xbox.
Workshop scenarios (Overthrow, BECTI, custom Capture & Hold variants) are published as full mods on the Arma Reforger Workshop. They unlock completely new experiences — persistent open-world sandbox in Overthrow, commander-focused strategic RTS-lite in BECTI — but every connecting player must download the mod, and adding a Workshop mod can break crossplay if any dependency isn't flagged crossplay-compatible.
