Starting altitude: climb to Y=200+ before boosting. The higher you start, the further you glide per rocket.
Level 3 rockets are most efficient: 9 gunpowder per 1000 blocks (Level 3) vs 25 gunpowder (Level 1). Always craft Level 3.
Repair elytra: Mending + XP farm is the cheapest. Phantom Membrane in an Anvil costs durability permanently via the anvil penalty.
Don't boost through water: fireworks fizzle in water. Fly above water or avoid lakes entirely.
Firework damage: Firework rockets with explosion stars damage you. Don't boost crossbow-ammo rockets — make plain flight rockets (no star added).
