Check Any Minecraft Server
About This Tool
This Minecraft server status checker queries public servers using the Minecraft Server List Ping (SLP) protocol. Enter any public address — domain name or IP with optional port — and see if it's online, how many players are connected, what version it's running, and the server message (MOTD).
Supports both Java Edition (default port 25565) and Bedrock Edition (default port 19132). Server IPs are resolved via DNS including SRV records — so play.hypixel.net works the same as the raw IP.
Private servers won't respond unless they have Server List Ping enabled (on by default). Cracked servers and modded servers work the same as vanilla — the protocol is unchanged.
How the Minecraft Server Status Checker Works
Enter any Minecraft server address — domain name, IP, or IP with custom port — and this tool queries it using the Minecraft Server List Ping (SLP) protocol. That's the same protocol your Minecraft client uses when showing server info on the multiplayer menu.
The response includes whether the server is online, current and max player count, the server software (Vanilla / Paper / Spigot / Forge / Fabric / BungeeCord), Minecraft version, server icon, MOTD (message of the day), and often a list of connected players. For Bedrock servers (Pocket/Xbox/PlayStation/Switch), we detect port 19132 and use the Bedrock variant of the protocol.
Common uses: check if your server crashed, troubleshoot connection issues before your friends join, or validate a public server's advertised player count. Status is cached for 30 seconds to be nice to the upstream service.
If your own server shows as offline but you know it's running, check: (1) is enable-status=true in server.properties, (2) is the firewall allowing inbound TCP on your Minecraft port, (3) does the DNS address resolve correctly including SRV records. Budget hosts often have reliability issues — if your server is intermittently offline, XGamingServer's 99.9% uptime and DDoS protection might be a better fit.
Minecraft Server Status Checker — FAQ
How does the Minecraft Server Status Checker work?
This tool uses the Minecraft Server List Ping (SLP) protocol — the same protocol your Minecraft client uses to show server info on the multiplayer screen. It queries the server's address and port, reads the response, and shows online/offline status, player count, version, MOTD, and server icon. Works on Java and Bedrock.
Why does my server show as offline when it's actually online?
Three common reasons: (1) Server List Ping is disabled in server.properties (set enable-status=true), (2) the server is behind a firewall that blocks external queries, (3) you entered the wrong port — Java uses 25565 by default, Bedrock uses 19132. Try with and without the port.
Can I check modded Minecraft servers?
Yes — modded servers (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge) use the same Server List Ping protocol as vanilla. The version field will show the mod loader version (e.g. 'Forge 1.20.1').
Why does the server show a different version than expected?
Some proxies (BungeeCord, Velocity) report a protocol range like '1.8 / 1.21' — they accept clients from any of those versions and route them to appropriate backends. Hypixel and other networks use this.
How often is the status updated?
Results are cached for 30 seconds. Refresh after 30 seconds to get fresh status. You'll see a 'cached' badge when the result is from cache.
My server is offline — what do I do?
First check: is the process running? Second: can you connect locally on the machine? Third: is the firewall blocking port 25565? If you're on a budget host with frequent downtime, consider moving to XGamingServer — 99.9% uptime, DDoS protection, and 24/7 support included on all Minecraft plans.
