How to Set a Password on Your StarRupture Server

Want to protect your StarRupture server from unwanted players? This guide explains how to set up a password on your dedicated server.

Setting Up a Server Password

Currently, the only reliable way to set a join password is through the in-game Server Manager. This must be done before using DSSettings.txt for automatic loading.

Step-by-Step Password Setup

1. Ensure no DSSettings.txt exists – Delete or rename any existing DSSettings.txt file in your server directory
2. Start your server – Launch the dedicated server normally
3. Open StarRupture game client – Launch the game on your PC
4. Connect via Server Manager – From the main menu, click “Manage Server” and enter your server IP and port
5. Set Admin Password – The game will first ask you to configure an Admin Password
6. Set Join Password – Click the “Change Password” button in the Server Manager dialog
7. Enter the password – Enter the join password that players will use when connecting
8. Exit properly – Click Back or press ESC. Do NOT create or load a game at this point
9. Stop the server – Shut down the server cleanly
10. Configure DSSettings.txt – Now you can create DSSettings.txt for automatic save loading

After Password Setup

Once the password is configured, create your DSSettings.txt file to enable automatic world loading:

Sharing Your Password

When sharing your server password with friends:

• Share via private message, not public channels
• Change the password if it becomes public
• Remember that the Admin Password and Join Password are separate

Important Notes

• There is currently no known method to set a password via parameters or DSSettings.txt directly
• The password is tied to the save game session
• If you create a new world, you may need to reconfigure the password
