Updating Your Factorio Dedicated Server

Learn how to enable automatic updates on your Factorio dedicated server to keep it up to date with the latest patches.

XGamingServer has automatic updates for Factorio servers enabled by default. This keeps your server current with the latest Factorio patches while also creating backups of your save before each update.

Updating Your Server

Open Startup Settings

Access the XGamingServer panel. In the sidebar, go to Startup.

Enable Automatic Updates

Find the Automatic Updates setting and make sure it is enabled.

Restart Your Server

Restart your server. It will now automatically update whenever a new Factorio version is released.

📝 Note: Whenever your server performs an automatic update, it creates a backup of your save in the save-backups folder, along with the version number it is updating from and a timestamp. This ensures your save is preserved in case something goes wrong, and you can always change your server version back if necessary.

FAQ

Should I Turn Automatic Updates Off?

We prioritize the stability of your factory by giving you full control over automatic updates. Factorio worlds and mods can be sensitive to version changes, especially with large or complex builds. By letting you toggle automatic updates and select your version, while also creating a backup before each update, we ensure that:

  • Your megabase remains stable and functional without recipe-breaking changes
  • Mod compatibility is not unexpectedly broken
  • You can test updates in a controlled environment first
  • Your automation systems continue running smoothly

This approach prevents any unwanted surprises that could impact hours of careful planning and construction.
