Raiding is the most high-stakes activity in DayZ — breaking into another group’s base to take their loot. It’s expensive, loud and risky. This guide covers how to raid bases in DayZ.
Scout before you raid
Never raid blind. Watch the base first to learn the entry points, patrol routes and defences, and whether anyone’s home. A failed raid wastes rare explosives and often gets you killed by defenders.
How to break in
The method depends on the wall:
- Explosives (the efficient way) — you can tear down a metal wall with two plastic explosives. Grenades, claymores and mines also work but you’ll need significantly more.
- Frag grenades — the M67 has roughly a 10-metre blast and is versatile for both raiding and defence.
- Manual — some weaker structures can be broken with tools or gunfire, but it’s slow and loud.
Plastic explosives spawn in industrial zones — garages, factories. Stockpile before a raid.
Raiding etiquette and risk
- Raids are loud — explosions draw every player and zombie nearby. Be ready to fight.
- Bring backup — one player to breach, others to watch for defenders.
- It’s a gamble — the loot may not be worth the explosives, and you may walk into a trap.
Control raiding on your own server
Don’t want full raiding? On your own DayZ server you set the rules — disable or limit raiding, adjust base damage, and protect your community’s builds (see our base building guide). It’s your server, your survival ruleset.
