DayZ Spawn Locations: Where You Spawn on Every Map (and What to Do First)

Every DayZ life starts the same way: you wake up on the coast with a rag, an apple, and no idea where you are. Where you spawn decides which towns you hit first, how far you are from the good loot, and how quickly you can find water. This guide breaks down where fresh spawns actually put you on all three official maps, and what to do in the first ten minutes.

Want to see the exact points? Our DayZ Spawn Map plots every fresh-spawn location on Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal straight from the server files, alongside the toxic zones you’ll want to avoid.

Chernarus+ — the south and east coast

Chernarus spawns you along the southern and eastern shoreline, spread across named coastal areas — West and East Cherno, West and East Elektro, Kamyshovo, Solnechny, Nizhnee, Berezino, Svetlojarsk and more. The south coast (Cherno, Elektro, Kamyshovo) puts you near dense towns for early food and clothing but heavy player traffic. The east coast (Berezino, Svetlojarsk) is quieter and closer to the north-east industrial and military areas. Your first move is always the same: find water (a well or pond), grab a knife or sharp tool, and get off the open beach before another fresh spawn finds you.

Livonia — spread wider inland

Livonia’s spawns are distributed differently — you’re more likely to start near smaller villages and forest edges rather than one long beach. That means less immediate player conflict but also fewer big towns in sight. Head for the nearest village to gather basics, then decide whether to push toward Lukow Airfield or the military areas once you’re geared enough to survive them.

Sakhal — the cold start

Sakhal is the winter survival map, and spawning here adds a brutal extra layer: cold. You’ll start on the coast like Chernarus, but hypothermia is a threat from minute one. Prioritise a fire, warm clothing, and shelter before you worry about weapons — and watch for the map’s many contaminated zones, which are far more common here than on the other maps.

Your first ten minutes anywhere

  • Drink and eat — find a well or pond and a few apples from apple trees to get out of the starving/dehydrated state.
  • Get a tool — a stone knife (crafted from two small stones) or any kitchen knife lets you open cans, skin animals and defend yourself.
  • Leave the coast — the shoreline is the most contested ground in the game. Move inland toward your first real town.
  • Know the hazards — check the spawn map for contaminated zones near your start, and the animal map so you don’t wander into a bear on your way inland.

Play on your own server

Fresh-spawn points are fully customisable on a private server — you can set custom spawn areas, add loadouts, or run a fresh-spawn safe zone for new players. XGamingServer DayZ hosting gives you panel access to all three maps with instant setup. New to survival? Start with our DayZ beginner’s survival guide.
