Two guns with the same damage can feel completely different in a fight — one snaps to your target and spits fire, the other is slow to aim but hammers a distant enemy with every shot. That’s weapon handling, and in WARDOGS it comes down to three numbers we pulled straight from the game files: aim time (how fast a gun aims down sights), fire rate, and accuracy (the spread cone). Here’s what the data says and how to use it.
Every stat below is in our free WARDOGS Weapon Database — compare any two guns side by side.
Aim time — the stat that decides close fights
Aim time (ADS speed) is how long it takes to bring a gun up to aim, in seconds. In a surprise close-range fight, whoever’s aiming first usually wins — so a fast aim time is worth more than raw power up close. From the files, the spread is dramatic:
- Fastest — pistols & SMGs (0.20–0.28s): the GGX 17, GGX 18 and M1911 pistols aim in just 0.2s, and SMGs like the AMP-9 and Super-45 hit 0.25s. This is why a sidearm can save you when your rifle is caught reloading — it’s up almost instantly.
- Mid — assault rifles (0.45–0.53s): the AK74 (0.45s) and M4/Galil (~0.49s) are the quickest-handling ARs; the T-21 and bullpups sit around 0.53s. A balanced trade of handling and power.
- Slow — snipers & the LMG (0.5–0.68s): the SV98 sniper is 0.6s and the M249 SAW is the slowest in the game at 0.68s. These are weapons you pre-aim before the fight starts, not ones you swing onto a target.
Takeaway: for close-quarters maps like Zestafona, prize fast aim time — an SMG or a quick-handling AR. For holding a lane or a tower, the slow aim time of a sniper or LMG doesn’t matter because you’re already aimed in.
Fire rate — how fast you put rounds out
Fire rate (RPM) decides how much lead you throw in the split-second a fight lasts. The extremes from the files:
- Highest — Super-45 & GGX 18 at 1,200 RPM: these shred at point-blank range, but they empty a magazine fast, so mag upgrades matter.
- Fast — AMP-9 (900), M249 SAW (850), M4 (800), MP5 (800): the M4 is the fastest-firing assault rifle, part of why it’s a top pick.
- Measured — most ARs at 650–700 RPM: the AK74, FAL and Galil trade rate of fire for control and range.
- Slow & deliberate — snipers at 46 RPM: bolt-action cadence — every shot has to count.
Accuracy — the spread cone (lower is better)
In WARDOGS, the accuracy stat is a spread value, so a lower number means a tighter, more precise weapon. This is what lets a gun reach out and reliably hit:
- Tightest — SV98 (0.56) & FAL (0.58): the two long-range kings. The SV98 is the single most accurate gun in the game; the FAL is the most precise auto-capable weapon.
- Precise ARs — AK74 (0.83), M4 (0.84), Deagle (0.84): tight enough for confident mid-range work.
- Spray weapons — MP5 (1.16), T-21 (1.5), Super-45 (2.0), M249 (4.3): these have wide cones by design — they’re volume weapons for close range or suppression, not precision tools.
Putting it together: handling archetypes
- The duelist (fast aim + high fire rate, loose spread): SMGs like the Super-45 and MP5. Win the corner, win the room — but stay close.
- The all-rounder (balanced everything): the AK74 and M4 — quick enough to aim, fast enough to fire, accurate enough to reach 500m.
- The marksman (slow aim, slow fire, pinpoint spread): the SV98 and FAL. Pre-aim your lane and make the first shot count.
- The anchor (slowest aim, high fire, wide spread): the M249 SAW — set up, don’t reposition, and drown a chokepoint in fire.
How to improve your weapon handling
You can tune handling with attachments and habits:
- Foregrips tighten your control for cheap — the RK6 Tactical Foregrip is just $380. See the attachments guide.
- Match your optic to your aim time — a fast-handling SMG wants a red dot or holo, not a heavy scope that slows target acquisition.
- Fire in bursts with wide-spread weapons past close range; save full-auto for when the enemy’s in your face.
- Pre-aim with slow-handling guns — never try to “swing” a sniper or LMG onto a close target; you’ll lose. Keep a fast sidearm for that.
WARDOGS weapon handling FAQ
What is aim time in WARDOGS?
It’s how long a weapon takes to aim down sights, in seconds — from 0.2s on pistols to 0.68s on the M249 SAW. Faster aim time wins close, reactive fights.
Does accuracy work differently in WARDOGS?
Yes — the accuracy stat is a spread cone, so a lower number is more accurate. The SV98 (0.56) is the most precise gun in the game.
What’s the best-handling weapon for close range?
SMGs and pistols — they aim in around 0.2–0.28s, far faster than rifles, which is why they dominate corners and rooms.
How do I reduce recoil in WARDOGS?
Fit a foregrip (the RK6 at $380 is a cheap start), fire in controlled bursts at range, and pick an optic that matches your engagement distance. Full picks in the attachments guide.
