The frozen Deep North is Valheim’s final biome, arriving with the 1.0 release on September 9, 2026 as the game leaves Early Access. While the full details land at launch, Iron Gate has confirmed enough for us to know roughly what to expect — and how to prepare. Here’s what we know about the Deep North and how to be ready on day one.
What is the Deep North?
The Deep North is an icy, frigid land of glacial peaks, frozen tundras, snowy mesas and frozen fields, swept by snowstorms and dotted with vast abandoned villages to explore. It’s confirmed as Valheim’s final biome, completing the progression that runs from the Meadows all the way through the Ashlands.
Confirmed Deep North enemies
Two new enemies have been revealed so far:
- Gammeltrolls — a frozen-north variant of Valheim’s iconic trolls.
- Elakingar — a new hostile creature native to the biome.
Expect more enemies, and likely new resources and crafting materials, to be revealed at or around the September 9 launch.
How to prepare for the Deep North
The Deep North sits at the top of the progression ladder, so you’ll want to be Ashlands-ready before you head north. Sensible preparation:
- Beat the Ashlands and Fader first. The Deep North is endgame content — arrive with top-tier gear, not as a shortcut.
- Stock frost resistance. A frozen biome means frost resistance mead and warm gear will almost certainly be essential, just as they are in the Mountains. See our armor guide (Wolf armor gives built-in frost resistance).
- Bring your best food. Read the best food guide and pack high-health Ashlands dishes.
- Carry strong weapons. Flametal-tier gear from the Ashlands — check the weapons guide.
A new platform launch, too
The 1.0 release that brings the Deep North also brings Valheim to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, with full crossplay across PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2. For the complete launch rundown, see our Valheim 1.0 guide and the platform availability guide.
Explore the Deep North together
The final biome is exactly the kind of dangerous endgame content best tackled as a crew. A Valheim dedicated server keeps your world online 24/7 so your group can gear up and push into the Deep North together the moment 1.0 drops — on any platform.
