The Mountains are Valheim’s frozen fourth biome — beautiful, exposed and lethally cold. They hold silver, the next tier of gear, and a dragon. This guide covers how to survive and progress the Mountains.
Beat the cold first
Without protection, the Mountains’ freezing drains your health constantly. You need either Frost Resistance mead (see our mead guide) or Wolf armor, which grants built-in frost resistance. Don’t set foot up here without one.
Key resources
- Silver — buried underground; use the Wishbone (from Bonemass) to locate veins, then mine them out. Silver makes Frostner, the Draugr Fang bow and Wolf armor.
- Obsidian — for frost arrows and tools.
- Dragon Eggs — from nests, needed to summon the boss (heavy, can’t teleport).
- Onion Seeds — found in Frost Caves to start onion farming.
Dangers
Watch for Wolves (especially packs at night), Drakes (flying frost attackers), Stone Golems (huge, hit hard — use a pickaxe/blunt), and Fenrings in Frost Caves. Storms reduce visibility near peaks.
The boss: Moder
Gather 3 Dragon Eggs and summon Moder on a peak. She drops Dragon Tears for the Artisan Table and a sailing tailwind power.
Climb together
A Valheim dedicated server keeps your world online 24/7 so your group can mine silver and tackle Moder together. See the progression guide.
