Valheim Haldor Trader Guide: Location & What He Sells

Where to find Haldor the trader in Valheim, what he sells (including the Megingjord belt), and how to earn Coins.

Haldor is Valheim’s wandering merchant, and finding him unlocks several items you can’t craft yourself — including one of the most useful belts in the game. This guide covers where to find Haldor and what he sells.

Where to find Haldor

Haldor spawns at a fixed location in a Black Forest biome, marked on your map with a bag icon once you get close. His exact spot is different in every world (it’s tied to your seed), so you may need to explore several Black Forest areas to find him. A seed-map viewer can reveal his location instantly — see our seeds guide. Once found, you can build a portal nearby for easy return trips.

What Haldor sells

  • Megingjord — a belt that increases your carry weight by 150. Arguably the most important early purchase in the game; buy it as soon as you can afford it.
  • Fishing Rod & Fishing Bait — the only way to start fishing (see our fishing guide).
  • Dverger Circlet — a head-mounted light that frees up your hands and is invaluable in dark dungeons and the Mistlands.
  • Ymir Flesh — a crafting material for certain weapons.
  • Cosmetics — the Yule Hat, Dverger Circlet and fireworks for decoration and fun.

How to pay: Coins

Haldor deals in Coins. You earn them by looting treasure chests (especially in Sunken Crypts and Fuling villages), killing Fulings in the Plains, and selling Haldor valuables. He buys Amber, Amber Pearls and Rubies — so hoard those gems you find rather than dropping them.

Getting to Haldor faster

Because he’s in a Black Forest, you’ll usually find Haldor fairly early. Prioritise the Megingjord — the carry-weight boost makes mining and hauling ore dramatically less painful for the rest of the game.

Share the trader with your crew

On a shared world, once one player finds Haldor everyone can use him. A Valheim dedicated server keeps that world persistent 24/7, so your whole group benefits from the trader, portals and bases you build — with full crossplay at the 1.0 launch.
