Installing Mods on Your Terraria Server with tModLoader
Install mods on your Terraria dedicated server using tModLoader and Steam Workshop IDs for content expansions and quality-of-life improvements.
In this guide, you will learn how to install mods on your Terraria server using tModLoader and Steam Workshop. Whether you want to add massive content expansions like Calamity Mod or Thorium, quality-of-life improvements like Magic Storage, or gameplay overhauls, modding opens up endless possibilities for your Terraria server.
💡 Tip: Players will also need to have tModLoader and the same mods installed on their local game client to join your modded server.
Installing tModLoader
Before installing any mods, you must first switch your server to tModLoader.
Open Startup Settings
Log in to the XGamingServer Panel and select your Terraria server. In the sidebar, navigate to Startup.
Switch to tModLoader
Under Version, locate Server Type and select tmodloader.
Restart Your Server
Restart your server to apply the change.
📝 Note: When switching to tModLoader, your existing server will be archived to a folder named Backups.
Installing Mods Using Steam Workshop IDs
You will need to know how to get a Workshop ID for each mod you want to install. You can view all the tModLoader mods here.
Once you find the mod you want, you need to copy the URL. Let's use this URL for example: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2824688072. The Workshop ID is the numbers at the end of the URL; in this case, the Workshop ID is 2824688072.
Stop Your Server
Access the XGamingServer Panel and Stop your Terraria server.
Add Workshop Mod IDs
In the sidebar, go to Startup and select the Mods tab. Under Mods, find Workshop Mod IDs and paste the Workshop IDs of the mods you'd like to install. You can also add multiple mods by separating them with a comma, for example:
2669644269,2563309347,2908170107- 2669644269 - Boss Checklist (A progression tracker)
- 2563309347 - Magic Storage (A storage system)
- 2908170107 - Serous Common Lib (A required dependency for Magic Storage)
Start Your Server
Go to Console and Start your server. The mods will automatically download and install once your server starts.
