How to Connect to a FiveM Server: Server List, Direct Connect & Join Links

Every way to join a FiveM server — the server list, direct connect by IP, cfx.re join links, and connection troubleshooting.

Whether you’re joining a friend’s roleplay server or testing your own, knowing the ways to connect to a FiveM server saves a lot of frustration. This guide covers every method to connect — the server list, direct connect, and join links.

Before you connect

You need a legitimate copy of GTA V installed, and the FiveM client installed and pointed at your GTA V folder. Launch FiveM (not GTA V directly) — it loads GTA V into the FiveM multiplayer environment.

Method 1: The server list

The simplest way. In the FiveM client, open Play / the server browser and search for a server by name. Click it and hit connect. Favourite servers you play often so they’re one click away. This is how most players find public roleplay and racing servers.

Method 2: Direct connect (by IP)

If you have a server’s IP and port — common for your own server or a private one — use direct connect:

  • In the FiveM client, use the Direct Connect field and enter ip:port (the default port is 30120).
  • Or open the F8 console in FiveM and type: connect <ip>:<port>

Example: connect 203.0.113.10:30120.

Method 3: cfx.re join link

Every FiveM server has a short cfx.re join code/link (like cfx.re/join/xxxxx). Clicking it — or entering the code in Direct Connect — connects you straight to that server. Server owners share these in their Discord so players can join in one click.

Connection troubleshooting

  • Can’t see your own server in the list? New/unlisted servers may not appear immediately — use direct connect by IP, and check your server’s slots aren’t above 48 without a Cfx.re subscription (see our OneSync & slots guide).
  • Connection rejected/timed out? The port may not be open, or the server is offline. Confirm the IP:port and that 30120 (TCP/UDP) is forwarded.
  • Stuck on loading? A heavy first-join asset download or a broken resource — check the server console.

Frequently asked questions

How do I join a FiveM server?

Launch the FiveM client, then either find the server in the server list, use Direct Connect with its ip:port, or click its cfx.re join link.

What is the default FiveM server port?

30120 (TCP and UDP). Use connect ip:30120 in the F8 console for direct connect.

Why can’t I connect to a FiveM server?

Usually the server is offline, the port isn’t open, or you entered the wrong IP/port. Slot limits above 48 without a Cfx.re subscription can also stop a server listing.
