Ever wonder why a military base in DayZ sometimes has loot and sometimes is bare? That’s the Central Loot Economy (CLE) at work — the system that controls every item on the map. Understanding it is essential for server admins and helps players too. This guide explains the DayZ Central Economy.
What the Central Loot Economy is
The CLE is DayZ’s server-side system that decides what loot spawns, where, how much, and how often. It doesn’t just fill the map to maximum — it spawns items gradually based on restock timers, player proximity and a global count of every item in the world.
How loot actually spawns
- Global limits — each item type has a maximum number allowed in the world at once.
- Items in storage count — guns and gear stored in your base, containers or on players still count toward the global total, which can block new spawns. Hoarding affects everyone’s loot.
- Restock & lifetime timers — items spawn on a timer and despawn after a lifetime if untouched.
- Player proximity — loot won’t spawn right on top of a player; you have to leave and return.
The files that control it
On a server, the CLE is driven by XML files — chiefly types.xml (per-item nominal/min counts, lifetime, restock, tiers), plus cfgspawnabletypes, cfgeconomycore and the area maps. To increase loot, you edit types.xml — raise nominal and min values. See our types.xml & increase loot guide, and use our free loot boost generator to do it without hand-editing XML.
Why this matters
If players complain “there’s no loot,” it’s usually the CLE doing exactly what it should — items are capped, stored away, or on a restock timer. Tuning types.xml (or boosting loot) on your own server fixes it for your community.
Run your own economy
On a DayZ server you control the entire loot economy — boost military gear, adjust restock, set tiers — for the exact experience your group wants. Our loot tool and config generator make it easy.

The server-side system that controls what loot spawns, where, how much and how often — based on global limits, restock timers and player proximity.
Why is there no loot on my DayZ server?
Usually the CLE working as intended — items are at their global cap (including gear stored in bases/containers), on a restock timer, or won’t spawn near players. Edit types.xml to increase it.
How do I increase loot on a DayZ server?
