Eikthyr is Valheim’s first boss — a giant electrified stag in the Meadows — and beating him is your gateway to mining and metal tools. He’s a gentle introduction, but new players still trip up. Here’s how to beat Eikthyr.
How to summon Eikthyr
Place 2 Deer Trophies on his altar in the Meadows. Deer Trophies drop (not guaranteed) from killing deer, so hunt a few. A nearby Vegvisir runestone marks his closest altar on your map.
Prepare before the fight
- Weapon: a Flint Spear or Crude Bow with plenty of arrows.
- Food: eat your three best early foods (cooked meat, honey, berries) for the health and stamina pool.
- Gear: Leather armor and a shield help, but mobility matters more here.
The fight
Eikthyr has 500 health and three attacks: a melee antler swipe, a fan-shaped lightning beam, and a lightning stomp AoE. All are easy to dodge once you read the tells — keep circling him, stay at the edge of his melee range, and punish between attacks. He can’t be staggered, so just stay patient and chip him down.
Rewards
Eikthyr drops his trophy and 3 Hard Antlers, used to craft the Antler Pickaxe — your first mining tool, which opens the entire metal tech tree. His Forsaken Power cuts run, jump and swim stamina use by 60%. See the boss tracker.
What’s next
With mining unlocked, head to the Black Forest for copper and tin, then take on The Elder. See the full boss order guide.
