Thralls are captured NPCs that fight for you, craft for you and defend your base — and the best ones transform your Conan Exiles run. This guide covers capturing and breaking thralls, the combat and crafter types, and where to find the powerful named (T4) thralls.
How to capture a thrall
- Knock out an NPC with a blunt weapon — a Truncheon (or a blunted/concussive weapon) deals concussive damage that fills their stun bar instead of killing them.
- Bind the unconscious NPC with Fiber Bindings and drag them home.
- Place them on a Wheel of Pain with food, and wait — the wheel “breaks” them into a usable thrall. Better wheels and better food break them faster.
Combat thralls
- Fighters — melee guards and field companions; your front line.
- Archers — ranged defenders, excellent on walls and towers.
- Bearers — carry extra inventory and, surprisingly, hit hard in a pinch.
Equip combat thralls with the best armour and weapons you can — a well-geared thrall is a serious force multiplier.
Crafter thralls
Place a crafter in the matching station to unlock better recipes and cheaper crafting: Blacksmiths, Armorers, Cooks, Tanners, Carpenters, Smelters and more. A high-tier crafter thrall is often more valuable than a fighter — a named Blacksmith or Armorer unlocks gear and efficiency you can’t get otherwise.
Named (Tier-4) thralls
Named thralls are the rare tier-4 elite — the strongest fighters and the best crafters with the most recipes. Find them at named NPC camps (the Volcano, the Black Galleon, Sepermeru, Mounds of the Dead and other faction camps) and during Purges, which can spawn powerful named thralls to capture. Hunting specific named crafters (like a T4 Blacksmith) is a core mid-game goal.
