Valheim Mistlands Guide: Wisplight, Eitr, Magic & The Queen

How to survive and progress the Valheim Mistlands — clearing the mist, farming Black Cores and Soft Tissue, unlocking magic, and beating The Queen.

The Mistlands are Valheim’s most intimidating biome — dark, foggy, vertical and full of fast, deadly Seekers. But they’re also where the game opens up with magic for the first time. This guide covers how to start in the Mistlands, the key resources, and how to progress to the boss, The Queen.

First: clear the mist

The signature challenge of the Mistlands is the thick fog. The fix is the Wisplight, an equippable item that makes a wisp follow you and dispel the mist around you. To make one you build a Wisp Fountain to capture wisps — both require Yagluth to be defeated first, so finish the Plains before you come here. You can also place Wisp torches to clear fog around your base.

Key Mistlands resources

  • Black Cores — found in the Infested Mines beneath Black Marble buildings. They craft the Eitr Refinery and the Tier VI crafting stations (the Black Forge and Galdr Table).
  • Soft Tissue — mined from the giant Petrified Skulls scattered across the biome. You’ll need a Black Metal Pickaxe to crack the shell and mine it.
  • Yggdrasil Wood — harvested from the giant glowing roots, used in advanced crafting.
  • Sap & Refined Eitr — find a Dvergr Extractor (often hidden in crates in Dvergr settlements), build it into a Sap Extractor, then refine Sap + Soft Tissue in an Eitr Refinery to produce Refined Eitr.

Unlocking magic (Eitr)

The Mistlands introduce Eitr, the magic resource. Eat blue glowing Magecap mushrooms for a basic Eitr bar, then graduate to Refined Eitr foods. With Eitr unlocked you can craft staves at the Galdr Table — fireball, frost and summon (Dead Raiser) builds become viable. Pair them with Eitr-weave armor from our armor guide to power your spells.

Set up a forward base

The Mistlands are too far and too dangerous to commute from your old base. Build a forward base here — abandoned Dvergr structures made of Black Marble make excellent, defensible starting points. Light it with wisp torches and set a portal home.

The Queen

The Mistlands boss, The Queen, isn’t summoned at standard stones. You craft a Sealbreaker from nine Sealbreaker Fragments found in the Infested Mines, then use it to open her arena. Bring Eitr food, a light source and your best gear. For the full fight, see our boss order guide and the boss tracker.

Tackle the Mistlands with a crew

The Mistlands’ verticality and ambush Seekers make co-op a huge advantage. A Valheim dedicated server keeps your shared world online 24/7 so your group can explore, farm Black Cores and take down The Queen together — with full crossplay arriving at the 1.0 launch.
