DayZ Expansion Mod & Traders: Setup Guide

What DayZ Expansion adds and how to set it up — markets and traders, vehicles, missions, and the trader config files.

DayZ Expansion is the most popular mod suite in the game — adding markets and traders, vehicles (including helicopters), advanced base building, missions, quests and more. This guide covers DayZ Expansion and how to set up traders.

What DayZ Expansion adds

  • Markets & traders — buy and sell gear, weapons, vehicles and parts at trader zones, using an in-game currency.
  • Vehicles — cars, boats and helicopters far beyond vanilla.
  • Base building — expanded building with territories and raid mechanics.
  • Missions & quests — AI missions and a questing system for PvE content.
  • Quality of life — a map, compass, notifications and more.

It’s why so many community servers feel like a different game from vanilla.

How to install DayZ Expansion

  1. Add the DayZ-Expansion mods from the Steam Workshop to your server, with their keys (see our mods guide).
  2. Use an Expansion mission — add an expansion folder inside your mission with objects and traders subfolders (Expansion’s mission templates include these).
  3. Upload the mission to your server’s mpmissions directory.
  4. Update serverDZ.cfg to load the Expansion mission/map.

Setting up traders

Traders are defined by config files that set the trader zones (locations) and what each trader bot buys and sells (weapons, attachments, clothing, consumables, medical, vehicles, parts, building supplies). You place the trader objects and copy the trader config (e.g. TraderObjects.txt / market config) into the right server profile folder, then adjust prices and stock to balance your economy. Pre-made trader zone packs exist for both Chernarus and Livonia as a starting point.

Run Expansion on your own server

DayZ Expansion shines on a server you control. Our DayZ hosting makes adding Expansion and missions straightforward from the panel, with the RAM headroom a modded server needs (Expansion plus traders can push memory well past vanilla).
