In Conan Exiles, almost everything you can craft — from a stone hatchet to a star metal greatsword — is locked behind the Knowledge system. If you have ever opened the menu, seen a wall of grayed-out recipes, and wondered why you cannot build that wheel of pain, this guide is for you. We will cover how Knowledge Points work, the three ways to learn recipes, where to find world-unlocked knowledge, how to respec, and how to push past the level cap to unlock everything.
Feats vs. Knowledge: what changed
Before the Age of Sorcery update (version 3.0), the crafting menu was called “Feats.” Funcom renamed it to “Knowledge,” but veteran players and many guides still use both terms interchangeably. Functionally they are the same thing: a skill tree where you spend Knowledge Points to permanently learn recipes. Don’t be confused if you see “feats” in an older video — it is the same tab.
How Knowledge Points work
You earn Knowledge Points (KP) by leveling up. Each level grants points you can pour into the Knowledge tree to unlock recipes. You start with a small handful of basic recipes at level 1, plus a free unlock around level 2, and if you picked a religion at character creation you also begin with that faith’s tier-1 recipes.
The catch: the maximum character level is 60, and the points you earn from leveling alone are not enough to unlock the entire Knowledge tree. You will have to make choices — or supplement points using endgame items described below.
The three ways to learn recipes
- Spend Knowledge Points — the standard path. Open the Knowledge tab and unlock recipes with points earned from leveling.
- Find it in the world — some recipes are taught by interacting with world objects, journals, scrolls, and tablets scattered across the map. These “found” knowledges do not cost Knowledge Points.
- Purchase from NPCs — certain recipes are bought from special NPCs, often in exchange for Fragments of Power at the Library of Esoteric Artifacts beneath the Unnamed City.
Where to unlock knowledge in the world
The single most important location for endgame Knowledge is The Archives, found beneath the Unnamed City in the Exiled Lands. Here the Library of Esoteric Artifacts lets you trade Fragments of Power for random high-tier recipes — each Fragment turned in at the scroll shelf gives one recipe you don’t already know. This is how you collect rare dungeon recipes like delving benches and unique gear.
Religion is another major source. When you learn a new faith (from a religious teacher in a starter camp, or by selecting one at creation), every tier-1 recipe for that religion unlocks automatically, free of charge. Mitra, Set, and Yog each grant their own altars, weapons, and avatar paths. If you want to dig into ritual crafting, see our followers and war party guide for how thralls tie into religious and sorcery benches.
Sorcery: a different kind of knowledge
Sorcery feats do not work like the rest of the tree — you cannot simply level into them. Instead you must obtain the Tome of Kurak, found in the world (in Shaleback Hollow, or the Cave of Kurak beneath Riverwatch Keep), which teaches Basic Sorcery. From there you upgrade the Tome of Kurak repeatedly — up to fifteen times — to unlock additional spells, or Words of Power. Sorcery unlocks corruption-fueled spells, summoned undead followers, and more — a deep system we break down in our corruption guide.
Going past the cap: Fragments and Tablets of Power
Once you hit level 60, leveling stops giving points — but two consumable items let you keep unlocking feats. Note that you must be level 60 before these items grant you extra points.
| Item | Knowledge Points granted | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fragment of Power | 10 | Found in chests, dungeons, and endgame loot; also turned in at the Archives for recipes |
| Tablet of Power | 60 | Crafted from Fragments of Power; more point-efficient than consuming the Fragments raw |
Because the full tree costs far more points than leveling provides, dedicated players farm Fragments of Power to eventually unlock every recipe. The Tablet of Power is the efficient route: it grants more points than the Fragments used to craft it would have given individually.
How to respec your feats and knowledge
Made a mistake or want to rebuild your recipe loadout? The respec landscape changed over the game’s updates, so be careful which potion you use:
- Potion of Natural Learning — the dedicated Knowledge respec. It refunds the points you spent and resets recipes you unlocked through the Knowledge menu. Importantly, it does not reset “found” knowledges (world unlocks) or your religions.
- Yellow Lotus Potion — historically used for respecs, but since the Age of War update it no longer resets attributes or feats. It is associated with resetting learned recipes and has a reputation for occasionally wiping more than intended, so back up before using it.
Both potions are crafted at an Alchemy Bench. For the full breakdown of lotus types and brewing, see our alchemy and potions guide.
Smart leveling: what to unlock first
- Prioritize tier-tool upgrades (stone to steel) so your gathering and combat keep pace with the world.
- Unlock the Wheel of Pain and a tannery early — thralls and leather underpin almost every later recipe.
- Grab armor and a basic forge before chasing decorative or luxury feats.
- Save heavy point investment for star metal and dragonbone gear once you can actually reach those resources.
Running your own server lets you tweak the experience-rate and feat-point multipliers so the whole tree opens faster — great for community servers that want endgame builds without the grind. You can fine-tune all of that through our dedicated Conan Exiles hosting, and the admin setup steps live in our Conan Exiles server documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Can you unlock all feats in Conan Exiles?
Not from leveling alone — reaching level 60 gives far fewer Knowledge Points than the full tree costs. To unlock everything you must farm Fragments of Power (10 points each) or Tablets of Power (60 points each), which only grant points once you are level 60. On a private server, admins can also raise the feat-point multiplier to speed this up.
How do I respec my knowledge points?
Brew a Potion of Natural Learning at an Alchemy Bench. It refunds and resets the recipes you unlocked through the Knowledge menu, but it leaves your religions and any “found” world knowledges intact. The Yellow Lotus Potion no longer resets feats since the Age of War update.
Where do I learn rare endgame recipes?
Head to the Library of Esoteric Artifacts in The Archives beneath the Unnamed City. Turn in Fragments of Power at the scroll shelf and each one grants a random recipe you don’t already know — the main source of unique dungeon and legendary crafting recipes in the Exiled Lands.
