Switching Vintage Story Server Versions
Learn how to change your Vintage Story server version or switch release branches to play older versions or test upcoming releases.
Want to play an older Vintage Story version or test upcoming pre-release builds? This guide walks you through changing the release branch and version on your server.
⚠️ Warning: Make sure you back up your save before changing versions! Features from experimental pre-release versions are not expected to be supported on shared hosting as this is only a testing ground for the game developers. We officially only support the main, stable branch of the game.
Change Release Branch
Stop Your Server
Access the XGamingServer panel and Stop your Vintage Story server.
Select a Release Branch
In the sidebar, click Startup. Find the Release branch setting and select your desired branch:
stable- The latest stable releaseunstable- Pre-release buildspre- Experimental builds
Reinstall Your Server
In the sidebar, go to Dashboard and click Reinstall Server.
💡 Tip: Consider deleting ALL files and folders in
Filesfor a clean installation.
Change Specific Version
📝 Note: Your desired version must be available on your selected release branch.
A community-maintained list of Vintage Story versions can be found at vsversions.com.
Stop Your Server
Access the XGamingServer panel and select your Vintage Story server.
Set the Version
In the sidebar, click Startup. Set your Release branch to stable or unstable, then change Release version from latest to your desired version (e.g., 1.18.15).
Reinstall Your Server
Go to Dashboard and click Reinstall Server.
