Once your The Isle: Evrima server is running, the real customization happens in the config files. This guide explains what Game.ini controls, the settings most server owners change first, and the easiest way to edit them without breaking your server.
What Game.ini controls
The Isle Evrima’s server behaviour is driven mainly by Game.ini (with some engine-level settings in Engine.ini). This is where you set the rules of your world — growth speed, which creatures are allowed, day length, queue and whitelist behaviour, and more.
| Setting area | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Growth multiplier | How fast dinosaurs grow from hatchling to adult |
| Allowed classes | Which dinosaur species players can spawn as |
| Day / night length | Duration of the day-night cycle |
| Whitelist & queue | Who can join and how reserved slots work |
| Mutations & Elder System | Optional advanced progression features |
The settings most owners change first
- Growth multiplier — raise it so players reach adulthood sooner and spend more time in the action.
- Allowed dinosaurs — restrict the roster (e.g. a herbivore-only or no-apex server) to shape your community’s experience.
- Day length — longer days for visibility, or longer nights for tension.
- Whitelist — lock the server to approved players for a controlled community.
The easy way to edit it
Editing INI files by hand is error-prone — one wrong bracket and the server won’t load your settings. Two ways to make it painless:
- Use our free Isle server config generator to build a valid
Game.ini+Engine.iniwith allowed classes, then paste it into your server. - On XGamingServer hosting, edit everything from a visual
Game.inieditor in the panel — no file editing required. See the server config docs for a full walkthrough.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Game.ini file for The Isle Evrima?
It lives in your server’s config folder alongside Engine.ini. On managed hosting you usually don’t need to find it manually — a visual config editor in the panel exposes the same settings. Our config docs show exactly where it is.
How do I restrict which dinosaurs players can use?
Set the allowed classes in Game.ini — list only the species you want playable. This is how owners create herbivore-only or no-apex servers. Our config generator builds the allowed-classes list for you.
Why aren’t my Game.ini changes taking effect?
Usually it’s a syntax error (a missing bracket or wrong key) or you didn’t restart the server after saving. Use a config generator to produce valid files, save, then fully restart the server so it reloads the config.
