Nesting is how you grow a group in The Isle: Evrima — pairing up, laying eggs and raising hatchlings into a herd or pack. It’s a multi-step system with a few easy-to-miss details. This guide walks through courting, laying eggs, nest temperature and keeping your clutch healthy.
Step 1: courting
Before two dinosaurs can nest, they have to pair-bond through courting. Both players hold N at the same time to trigger the mating animation and pair up. You can only nest with a paired partner of the same species.
Step 2: laying eggs
Once paired, the female builds a nest, then lies or stands on it and places eggs with the E key. The catch: only eggs that are 100% gestated can be placed in the nest. Each egg also drains some of your food and nutrients, so eat and drink thoroughly first.
Step 3: nest temperature
Eggs need the right temperature, and temperature decides the sex of the hatchlings:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Lie down on the nest | Warms the nest → more females |
| Hold E in front of the nest | Cools the nest → more males |
| Good diet before laying | More eggs, fewer rotten eggs |
Private vs public nests
Nests can be private or public. Private nests require a code to join, so only people you share it with can become hatchlings. Public nests just need the pair to accept join requests. Private is safer for organised groups; public is faster for filling a nest with randoms.
Frequently asked questions
How do I nest in The Isle Evrima?
First pair-bond by both players holding N at the same time to court. Then the female builds a nest, lies or stands on it, and places fully-gestated eggs with the E key. Manage the nest temperature until the eggs hatch into playable hatchlings.
How does nest temperature affect hatchlings?
Temperature sets the sex of the hatchlings — colder nests produce more males, warmer nests produce more females. Lie on the nest to warm it, or hold E in front of it to cool it down.
Why are my eggs rotting?
Rotten eggs are more likely when the laying parent has a poor diet. Eat all your preferred foods and stay well-fed and hydrated before laying — a perfect diet means more eggs and fewer rotten ones.
