How To Connect To Your Project Zomboid Server

Learn how to join your Project Zomboid dedicated server using the IP address.

There are two ways to connect to your Project Zomboid server: using the in-game favorites list (recommended) or through the Steam server browser. Both methods require your server's IP address and port.

The in-game favorites method is the most reliable way to connect to your server.

Copy Your Server IP

Log in to the XGamingServer Panel and copy your server IP address from the sidebar.

Open the Favorites Menu

Open Project Zomboid and from the main menu select Join, then click the Favorites tab.

Enter Your Server Details

Fill in the connection fields. Make sure to separate the IP and port into their own fields:

  • IP: Your server IP (e.g. 111.111.111.111)
  • Port: Your server port (e.g. 27015)
  • Account Username: Choose any username
  • Account Password: Choose any password
  • Server Password: Your server password, if you have one set

Save and Connect

Click Save, then select your server and click Join Server.

💡 Tip: The username and password you enter here create a new account on the server — they are not your Steam or XGamingServer credentials.

Method 2: Steam Server Browser

You can also add your server through Steam's built-in server browser.

Copy Your Server IP

Log in to the XGamingServer Panel and copy your server IP address from the sidebar.

Open Steam Game Servers

In the Steam client, click View in the top menu bar, then select Game Servers.

Add to Favorites

Click the Favorites tab, select Project Zomboid as the game, then click the Plus (+) icon and paste your full server IP address (including port).

Connect

Select your server and click Connect. Enter your server password if applicable.

Create Your Character

Once in-game, enter a username and password to create your server account, then join.

📝 Note: If you have trouble connecting through the Steam browser, try enabling Use Steam Relay in the in-game connection settings. This can help with connectivity issues caused by firewalls or NAT.

Troubleshooting

I Can't Add My Server to In-Game Favorites

Make sure you have entered the IP and port in their separate fields — do not paste the full IP:Port string into the IP field. All of the following fields must be filled in:

  • IP — Just the IP address, no port
  • Port — Just the port number
  • Account Username — Any username you choose
  • Account Password — Any password you choose
  • Server Password — Only if your server has a password set
