How to Connect to Your Valheim Server
Learn how to find your server IP and connect to your Valheim dedicated server using the in-game browser or Steam.
There are two ways to connect to your Valheim server — through the in-game server browser or via the Steam server browser. Both methods require your server IP address.
📝 Note: By default, your Valheim server has a randomly generated password. You can view or change it in
Startupon the panel.
Connecting In-Game
Find your server IP
Log in to the XGamingServer panel and copy your server IP address from the sidebar on the Dashboard page.
Start Valheim
Open Valheim and click Start Game, then select your character.
Add your server
Click Join Game, then click Add Server.
Enter your IP address
Paste your server IP address and click Connect.
Connecting via the Steam Browser
The Steam server browser lets you favorite your server and connect directly, launching Valheim automatically.
Find your server IP
Log in to the XGamingServer panel and copy your server IP address from the Dashboard page.
Open the Steam server browser
In the Steam client, click View → Game Servers at the top menu.
Add to favorites
Click the Favorites tab, select Valheim as the game filter, then click the + icon.
Enter the query port
Add your server IP with the port incremented by 1. For example, if your server IP is 123.456.789.0:27016, enter 123.456.789.0:27017.
Connect
Double-click your server in the favorites list to connect.
💡 Tip: The Steam browser uses a query port that is one number higher than your game port. This is normal for Valheim — just add 1 to the port number shown on your panel.
Troubleshooting
If you can't connect to your server, try these steps:
- Check that your server is online — Make sure it shows as "Running" on the
Dashboard - Verify the password — Check the server password in
Startupand make sure you're entering it correctly - Wait for the server to fully start — Valheim servers can take 1-2 minutes to become joinable after starting
- Check for crossplay — If crossplay is enabled, all platforms connect through Microsoft's relay servers. See our crossplay guide for details
- Restart your server — Sometimes a simple restart resolves connection issues
