How to Set a Password on Your Valheim Server
Learn how to set or change the password on your Valheim dedicated server.
Setting a password on your Valheim server requires players to enter it before they can join. This is one of the simplest ways to control access to your server.
📝 Note: By default, XGamingServer Valheim servers come with a randomly generated password. You can change it to something easier to share with your group.
Setting a Server Password
Open the XGamingServer panel
Access the XGamingServer panel and select your Valheim server.
Go to Startup
In the sidebar, go to Startup.
Set your password
Find the Server Password field and enter your desired password.
Restart your server
Restart your server from the Console page to apply the change.
💡 Tip: Valheim requires passwords to be at least 5 characters long. Choose something easy for your friends to remember but not too obvious. Share the password privately rather than posting it publicly.
📝 Note: For additional privacy, you can also make your server private to hide it from the server browser entirely.
