How to Find Your World Seed in Valheim

Learn how to retrieve your Valheim world seed using console commands to explore your map or recreate your world.

World seeds in Valheim determine the layout of your entire map — biome placement, boss locations, and terrain generation. You can use your seed to explore your map on external tools like Valheim World Generator or create a copy of your world in singleplayer.

Enabling the Console

The Valheim console is disabled by default. You need to enable it through Steam before you can retrieve your seed.

Open Steam

Open your Steam client and go to your Library.

Open Valheim properties

Right-click Valheim in your library and select Properties.

Add the console launch option

In the Launch Options field, type -console.

Launch Valheim

Close the properties window and start your game.

Join your Valheim server.

Open the console

Press F5 to open the in-game console.

Print the seed

Type printseeds and press Enter.

You'll see output that looks something like this:

-925266684/MXADgi5IxT

Your world seed is the code after the / — in this example, the seed is MXADgi5IxT.

💡 Tip: Copy your seed and paste it into Valheim World Generator to see a full map of your world, including boss altar locations, trader positions, and biome layouts.
