Kibble is the best taming food in ARK: Survival Ascended — feeding a creature its preferred kibble tames it faster and with much higher taming effectiveness, which means more bonus levels on the finished tame. ASA uses a clean, tiered kibble system based on egg size. This guide explains the tiers, how to craft each one, which creatures want which tier, and how to keep kibble in steady supply.
How the kibble system works
Instead of a unique kibble per creature, ASA groups kibble into tiers determined by the size of the egg used to make it. Bigger, rarer eggs make higher-tier kibble, and higher-tier creatures want higher-tier kibble for the best tame. Knowing the tiers is most of the battle.
The kibble tiers
| Kibble Tier | Egg Size | Example egg sources |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Extra Small | Dodo, Lystrosaurus |
| Simple | Small | Dilo, Parasaur, smaller creatures |
| Regular | Medium | Raptor, Carno-class creatures |
| Superior | Large | Rex, Spino, Argentavis, Allosaurus |
| Exceptional | Extra Large | Giganotosaurus, Wyvern |
| Extraordinary | Special | Special eggs (e.g. Wyvern/Magmasaur lines) |
How to craft kibble
Each kibble recipe combines an egg of the correct size with supporting ingredients — typically a fibre, a crop or berry, water, and a meat or jerky depending on the tier — cooked in a Cooking Pot (or much faster in an Industrial Cooker). Once you have an industrial cooker with piped water, you can batch-produce kibble in bulk, which is how serious tamers always have the right kibble ready.
Farming eggs
The bottleneck is eggs. Two ways to get them:
- Wild eggs — picked up off the ground where creatures spawn (and stolen from nests for some species, which aggros the parents).
- An egg farm — keep a pen of tamed females (and wandering pairs) so they continuously drop eggs you collect. Pair this with an Oviraptor nearby, which boosts egg-laying rates. This is the reliable, scalable supply.
Matching kibble to creatures
Feed a creature its preferred kibble tier for the fastest tame and the highest effectiveness. Feeding a higher tier than needed still works but wastes resources; feeding too low a tier tames slower and with fewer bonus levels. The big-ticket tames — Rex, Spino, Argentavis — generally want Superior kibble, so building toward a steady Superior supply is a major mid-game goal.
