Mounts transform Palworld. The right Pal under you means faster travel, the ability to fly over danger, cross oceans, and fight from the saddle. This guide covers the best mounts for flying, ground and water — both the early-game options you can get quickly and the endgame kings.

Best flying mounts

Jetragon is the best mount in the entire game — its sprint speed of 3,300 is more than double Frostallion’s and faster than every ground and water mount too. It also fires homing missiles while you ride. It’s a late-game catch, so until then:
- Nitewing and Vanwyrm are the easiest early flying mounts — Nitewing in particular is a great first set of wings.
- Beakon and Ragnahawk are strong mid-game upgrades while you work toward Jetragon.
- Frostallion (and its Dark variant Frostallion Noct) is the best flying mount short of Jetragon, with excellent speed and combat.

Best ground mounts

Necromus is the fastest ground mount in the game, with Paladius right behind it — this legendary duo dashes with their Active Skills and hits like a truck, so catching them sorts out land travel and melee in one trip. Early on, Direhowl is the go-to first ground mount: fast, easy to get, and available well before you can ride the legendaries.
Best water mounts

Surfent is the early answer to drowning — unlock its saddle at level 10 and you can surf across water safely. For the fastest swimming in the game, Jormuntide is the king, though you’ll wait until level 39 to unlock its saddle in the technology tree.
Don’t forget the saddle
You can’t ride any Pal until you unlock and craft its saddle in the technology tree, then equip it. Each mount has its own saddle at a specific level, so check the tech tree and prioritise the saddle for whichever mount you’re chasing. Riding also lets you use the Pal’s Partner Skill — like Jetragon’s missiles — turning your mount into a weapon.
The ideal mount progression
A clean upgrade path looks like this: Direhowl to get moving on land, Nitewing to take to the skies, Surfent to cross water, then Necromus/Paladius for fast ground travel and finally Jetragon, which removes every traversal limit at once.
