How to Update Your Arma Reforger Server
Learn how to keep your Arma Reforger dedicated server up to date with the latest patches and game updates.
Keeping your Arma Reforger server up to date is essential — game updates often include bug fixes, performance improvements, new content, and security patches. Players running a newer version of the game won't be able to join a server running an older version, so staying current prevents connection issues.
XGamingServer Arma Reforger servers support automatic updates by default. When a new update is available, your server will download and apply it during the next restart.
Automatic Updates
Open the XGamingServer panel
Access the XGamingServer panel and select your Arma Reforger server.
Go to Startup
In the sidebar, go to Startup.
Verify automatic updates
Under the Variables section, verify that Automatic Update is enabled.
Restart your server
Restart your server — it will check for updates and install them before launching.
The update process runs automatically during each server restart. If there's no update available, the server starts normally with no delay.
Forcing a Manual Update
If you know an update has been released and want to apply it immediately:
Stop your server
Stop your server from the Console or Dashboard.
Verify automatic updates are enabled
Make sure Automatic Update is enabled in Startup → Variables.
Start your server
Start your server — it will detect and download the update during startup.
The server console will show download progress during the update process. Larger updates may take several minutes depending on their size.
What Happens After a Game Update
Arma Reforger updates can sometimes change game mechanics, break mod compatibility, or alter server configuration formats. After a major update:
- Check your mods — Visit
Arma Reforger Config→ Mods tab and verify your installed mods are still compatible. Mod authors typically need a few hours to a few days to update their mods for new game versions. - Test your server — Join your server and verify that gameplay, scenarios, and mods are working as expected.
- Review patch notes — Check the official Arma Reforger patch notes for details on what changed.
💡 Tip: If a major update breaks your mods, you can temporarily disable automatic updates in
Startup→ Variables until your mod authors release compatible versions. Just remember to re-enable it once mods are updated.
⚠️ Warning: Running an outdated server version will prevent players with the latest game client from connecting. Always keep your server updated unless you have a specific reason not to.
